The interdisciplinary research project "FUBIC" is jointly carried out by ISEA and EBC, WISTA Management GmbH and Freie Universität Berlin as part of the 7th Energy Research Program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

The aim of the project is to create a demonstrator for the all-electricity supply of city districts. Within 5 years, the 5 ha project area including a former US military hospital from the 1970s and other existing buildings will be transformed into the technology and start-up center "FUBIC - Business and Innovation Center next to Freie Universität Berlin Campus". FUBIC will offer space for up to 85 young technology companies in the life sciences, healthcare and IT sectors. This will require conversions of the existing buildings as well as the construction of further new buildings. In the future, FUBIC will have a gross floor area of approximately 60,000 m².

Within the framework of the project, the conception and planning of an innovative electricity-only supply for FUBIC will take place. The district´s energy supply will be transformed from a fossil-based to a 100 % renewable supply, thus contributing to climate protection. This is intended to answer the question of whether an all-electricity supply for a multivalent building use of laboratory and office buildings is feasible from a technical and economic point of view. The work steps include dynamic system simulations, design and testing of an energy management system, energetic monitoring as well as integral support of the construction process.
